About us

Prineville Rockhound Pow Wow was started in 1958 with the collaberation of

the Prineville Crook County Chamber of Commerce and the

All Rockhounds Pow Wow Club.

Knowing the area was rich in high quality agate, jasper and obsidian

it wasn't hard to convince rock enthusiast to meet

for the opportunity to dig, learn about and share their finds.

In Wild West jargon, a "Pow Wow" is a large get together.

The term has been used for rock related events for nearly a century.
