About us
Prineville Rockhound Pow Wow was started in 1958 with the collaberation of
the Prineville Crook County Chamber of Commerce and the
All Rockhounds Pow Wow Club.
Knowing the area was rich in high quality agate, jasper and obsidian
it wasn't hard to convince rock enthusiast to meet
for the opportunity to dig, learn about and share their finds.
In Wild West jargon, a "Pow Wow" is a large get together.
The term has been used for rock related events for nearly a century.
